Safety Information

At Cosy, we love seeing our products enjoyed to the fullest. A few simple checks keep play safe, fun, and worry-free.

Our outdoor wooden products are made from natural 'green wood'. This means they expand, contract, and gently change with the weather.

Splits may appear. Bark may fall off. Colour may shift over time. These are natural quirks – not faults.

Check your products regularly to keep them in top condition. Sand rough or splintered edges. Wire brush any moss or mould to keep things clean and usable.

Treat outdoor wood with non-toxic, water- or oil-based products. Apply again every 6–12 months to prolong the life of your resource.

We'd advise against filling splits or cracks with wood filler – it takes away from that beautiful natural look.

Many of our products are classed as toys. Children should always be instructed and supervised during play.

Some products need higher levels of supervision than others. Store these together and treat them accordingly.

Make sure all supervisors are trained in risk awareness. Keep supervision levels high at all times.

All outdoor play equipment must sit on a flat, level surface. This should conform to EN 1177:2018 (Impact Attenuating Playground Surfacing).

Free fall space around climbing equipment matters. Keep this space clear of obstacles on all sides.

Climbing products up to 150cm high: 150cm free fall space on all sides

Climbing products up to 200cm high: 183cm free fall space on all sides

Before every play session, check that all fixings are tight. Inspect daily for any breaks, cracks, or splinters.

Carry out a risk assessment before introducing new equipment. Do the same when new children start using existing resources.

Communicate rules of use clearly. Point out specific risks for each product.

Create a shared framework for climbing, balancing, and building. This helps children play safely while still having fun.

Some of our products are heavy or long. Tell children never to carry or hold them above head height.

Larger items should be moved by two people to avoid injury.

Outdoor products behave differently in changing weather. Wet or icy conditions can increase slip risk.

Check the forecast. Adjust play and supervision as needed.

Only use child-friendly, non-toxic paints or stains on your Cosy products.
